Picture of John B. Durkee John B. Durkee earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, Dr. Durkee was hired by Dupont to be a Senior Research Scientist, which lead to a career with this industry leader that spanned more than 25 years. After an early retirement from Dupont, Dr. Durkee became an Independent Consultant working with both suppliers and end-users. He is available for consultation and expert witness services covering all phases of critical, precision and metal cleaning as well as environmental management and customized marketing research.

Dr. Durkee has written more than 300 technical articles in the areas of cleaning materials and process management, solvent substitution, and the marketing of technical products.

Dr. Durkee is the sole author of several monthly columns:

A column in Galvanotechnik, a German journal for Metal Finishing & Electroplating with a world-wide distribution.
A column in Surface Finishing Journal, a Chinese journal for Metal Finishing & Electroplating with a world-wide distribution.

Dr. Durkee has taught cleaning science by invitation to firms as well at technical seminars such as Clean-Tech, NEPCON West, APEX, the Phoenix Solvent Substitution Workshop, the NASA Aerospace Conference on Environmental Affairs, the International Conference on Elimination of CFCs, and others.

Dr. Durkee served on the consulting faculty at the University of Tennessee as a thesis advisor, served on the advisory board of Precision Cleaning Magazine, wrote a monthly column for Products Finishing Magazine, and is an advisor to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts™ Toxic Use Reduction Institute (TURI).

With a past client, Dr. Durkee received the prestigious R&D Magazine Top 100 Award for the year 2000. This recognition was for the development of a new cleaning system that cleans without cleaning chemistry.

Dr. Durkee is a member of ASTM, AICHE, ACS, and IEST. He participates in the Intota consulting network, a technical expert referral program formerly known as Sopheon/Tel-Tec. With INTERTECH, John B. Durkee has organized and hosted a technical conference regarding management of hazardous solvents in the workplace and has been asked to repeat this conference at additional sites. Dr. Durkee is a founding member of the Alternate Solvents Management Association.

Dr. Durkee has excellent contacts within industry, government, trade associations, academia, and various international centers. He has provided, and continues to provide, input to Congress and the US EPA on future environmental regulations.
